Make your own Tie-Dye Mickey Head Shirt

This simple and fun tee-shirt design looks like traditional tie-dye but without the mess!

Supplies:

  • pre-washed white tee shirts
  • permanent markers–I used Sharpie markers
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Eye dropper
  • Rubber bands
  • Glasses in two different sizes (One size for head and a smaller size for the ears)
Directions:
1. Decide where you would like your mouse head to be positioned and place the bigger glass under the front of the shirt and secure with a rubber band.
2. Begin dotting around the edge of the glass  with the permanent markers. You can alternate colors and experiment using dots or dashes. Make sure you are letting the ink soak into the shirt.
3. Using the eye dropper, apply isopropyl alcohol around the edge of the glass where you just colored. Now watch as the colors begin to spread.
4. Remove the glass and repeat the above direction for each ear.

Tips:
  • The more isopropyl alcohol you apply, the more the color will spread.
  • Sharpie recommends that before you wash the shirt,  you  apply a heat setting to it. Throwing it in the dryer for a few minutes should help set the design and minimize fading.

New Use for Mouse Ear Patches

There are two design-your-own Mouse Ear locations at Walt Disney World: (1) Chapeau at Magic Kingdom and (2) Downtown Disney Marketplace, The Art of Disney (it is actually between two stores). You can pick the hat color, the kind of ears you want, and peel-and-stick patches representing favorite Disney characters, Disney princesses, and Disney Channel shows you would like to adorn your ears. However, if you’re feeling a bit too old for Mouse Ears, the patches make a wonderful, inexpensive souvenir that you can apply tn almost any article of clothing.

All you do is peal the back off the patch and stick it to something. The possibilities are endless!

  • Hats and Visors
  • Shirts and Sweatshirts
  • Skirts
  • Shorts
  • Purses and Bags

I suggest you stitch around the patch if you plan to wash the garment. You could also apply some iron-on bonding adhesive. Patches cost about $2.95 each.  Disney Every Day has a great article on creating your own Mouse Ears and has pictures of the various patches.

Mother’s Day Card

All you have to do is click on the picture below and a bigger card will pop up.  You can also visit Disney Family Fun for even more ideas.

Make your Own Disney Edible Arrangement

In March I talked about Disney edible arrangments by ediblearrangements.com. But at nearly $60.00 an arrangement, I knew that there had to be a cheaper alternative. Luckily, I had just the person in mind to tackle this do-it-yourself project. Ashely from A Cup of Disney is a foodie extraordinaire. She enthusiastically agreed to give it a try and created a wonderful, affordable edible arrangement. Enjoy!

I went to my local grocery store and Dollar Store and bought the items needed to make a fruit arrangement at home for a fraction of the price! $15.72 to be exact!

Supplies

1 Cantaloupe
1 Pineapple
1 quart of Strawberries
1 bag of grapes
Kale or lettuce leaves
1 bowl
1 floral form insert
1 bag of wooden bbq skewers (20 pack+)

Cookie cutters of your choice
Decorations for your base/arrangement of your choice

Directions

1. Prepare the base you have selected for your arrangement. I have selected a red bowl but you could use whatever bowl you want for a base. You can use a Princess crown, special stickers, or any Disney figurine to personalize your arrangement. Place the foam form in the base to be sure it fits properly. You may need to cut the foam to fit the base you choose. When that is all set cover your foam base in aluminum foil. Then cover with leaves of lettuce or kale.

2. Wash all the fruit and prepare to cut it into the desired shapes that you want for your arrangement. You will want a large bowl to put the discarded fruit and rinds into. You will also want a kitchen towel or paper towels around because your hands and cutting board will be covered in fruit juice.

3. For the pineapple I cut it into ½ inch slices and then used my Mickey Mouse cookie cutter to cut out the center of the pineapple or you could use a knife to cut out a pattern of your own.

4. The melon I cut in half and then into small spears.
For the grapes I put about 5 or 6 per skewer and one strawberry per skewer.

5. Pierce small holes in the cut fruit and then place them carefully onto the skewers. Beware of the points it is really sharp. You can cut the skewers into smaller stems for a different height assortment throughout the arrangement.

6. Place the skewers into the foam and push them down until they are secure. Continue filling the entire space with the fruit until it’s becomes a full bouquet. If you can see any of the foil just place more lettuce or kale in the gaps.
